(ADPnews) - Oct 8, 2010 - A Renewable Heat Incentive will be introduced in the UK and a subsidy for heat will sit within the government's vision for renewables, Conservative cabinet office minister Oliver Letwin said on Monday.
"Our incentive for renewable heat will bring forward the generation of heat from waste and other renewable sources -- a crucial part of cutting carbon and maintaining energy security," Letwin said at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham on energy and environment.
Letwin also outlined the other factors that will fit together in the coalition's vision for green growth, including the Green Investment Bank, a system of feed-in tariffs (FITs), the Green Deal and a smart grid.
The Green Deal -- which will be introduced in Parliament before the end of the year -- will provide a way of making energy efficiency affordable to all, while the Green Investment Bank will support the next generation of British green technology investment.
According to Letwin, the creation of a smart grid will allow the UK to handle "increasing amounts of intermittent energy supplied from renewable sources," while FITs will help "bring more of that renewable electrical energy forward."
