The UK government is looking to collaborate with India on renewable energy, the Business Standard reported on Friday, citing UK energy secretary Amber Rudd.
Speaking to the newspaper, Rudd said the UK was interested in investing in technology and innovation. It has identified offshore wind as one of the areas of potential collaboration with India.
The UK energy secretary, who visited India this week, said that the Asian country wanted to learn from the UK's success story in offshore wind, while she wanted to learn from India's success story of solar.
Rudd said her visit sought to ensure some agreements with Indian departments ahead of the visit of India's prime minister to the UK and to showcase that the two countries were already cooperating on certain projects, particularly renewables.
She also said that commitments at the upcoming climate change conference in Paris would see many private companies in countries such as India and China working towards meeting their renewable targets and that this was also a matter of mobilising the private sector.
