UK Crown Estate seeks input for future wave, tidal leasing

Jul 26, 2012 - The Crown Estate, the body that manages the UK seabed, today launched an industry engagement exercise, seeking input from wave and tidal developers about future project leasing.

The exercise is designed to help The Crown Estate plan its leasing activities for the 2013-2015 period as its current wave and tidal leasing processes come to a close this autumn.

Developers are being invited to share their views of future projects, including regarding location and timing of development. The Crown Estate is also looking for suggestions about how it can improve the awarding of seabed rights, with respect to both the forms of rights offered and the leasing processes.

Over the past three years, The Crown Estate has leased 37 sites around the UK for wave and tidal projects, representing a potential capacity of about 1.8 GW. No other country is believed to have such a development pipeline, it said.
