Finnish company TuuliWatti Oy said on Wednesday it has made a final investment decision on a 21-MW wind project in Finland, which is slated to be the first subsidy-free scheme in the country.
The so-called Viinamaen wind farm will use five V150-4.2MW turbines supplied by Danish manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems (CPH:VWS), scheduled to be brought online in 2019. To be located in western Finland, the plant will generate electricity at a price of less than EUR 30 (USD 35.1) per MWh.
Meanwhile, TuuliWatti announced a new strategy through which it will seek to become a "full lifecycle service provider" for wind projects, delivering turnkey services to investors. The strategy evolves from the company’s major investment programme of EUR 650 million completed last year.
The Finnish company’s CEO Jari Suominen said this zero-subsidy project is “opening a new era” for the company. “We are also preparing for a technology neutral and market-driven time when different forms of production are no longer controlled by separate incentives," he said in respect to the Finnish government’s plans for technology-neutral auctions seeking 2 TWh of generation annually.
