Turkey sets date for 1-GW wind power tender

A tender for 1-GW of wind power capacity at renewable energy resources areas (YEKA) in Turkey will be held on July 27, energy minister Berat Albayrak said yesterday.

Preparations for the competitive process have been concluded and the bidding price cap has been set at USD 0.07 (EUR 0.066) per kWh. The power purchase contracts to be awarded will have terms of 15 years.

There is a 65% domestic content requirement and also rules for the hiring of local workforce.

At the end of 2016 Turkey had wind power parks with a total capacity of 6,081 MW, after installing 1,387 MW in a year. The tender announcement follows the successful completion in March of a tender for 1 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) power capacity in Konya province. The contract for the huge solar power plant was won by the Kalyon - Hanwha Group consortium at USD 0.0699/kWh.

Local media reported that there is strong interest in the upcoming wind tender from companies from China and Europe.
