Jun 10, 2014 - New Zealand firm TrustPower Ltd (NZE:TPW) will put on stream a 270-MW wind farm in South Australia later this month, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) said today, citing project manager Jim Pearson.
The Snowtown II wind park was initially planned to go online by September 2015. Construction of the facility kicked off 22 months ago and progressed despite unfavourable weather conditions, Pearson said, as quoted by the news agency.
The 270-MW wind park represents the second stage of the 370.8-MW Snowtown complex located north of Adelaide. The new facility is powered by 90 turbines made by Germany’s Siemens (FRA:SIE). The existing 98.7-MW Snowtown I plant, featuring 47 turbines by Indian Suzlon (BOM:532667), has been operational since 2008. An additional 2.1-MW machine was installed at the site in 2011 to boost the capacity of the park to 100.8 MW.
The entire Snowtown wind complex is expected to generate about 1,350 GWh of electricity each year, enough to supply 230,000 homes, the developer said on its website.
Renewable energy systems operator TrustPower is also building a 390-MW wind farm in the eastern Mount Lofty Ranges of South Australia.
