TrustPower breaks ground on 270-MW S Australian wind park - report

Oct 25, 2012 - Construction of the 270-MW second phase of TrustPower Ltd's (NZE:TPW) wind project in South Australia began on Thursday, ABC News reported.

The second phase of the Snowtown wind park is to include the installation of 90 turbines by Siemens AG (FRA:SIE) for AUD 439 million (USD 455m/EUR 350m). The new turbines, which bring the farm's total to 137, will produce enough power to supply up to 180,000 households. Construction is expected to be completed by end-2014.

TrustPower, a renewable power generation group based in New Zealand, was quoted as saying the extended project would generate electricity to meet over 10% of the state's annual power demand.

According to the South Australian government, the bigger wind farm would help the state meet its goal of producing 33% of energy from renewable sources by 2020.
