Triton Knoll offshore wind project eyes share of CfD subsidy

The up-to-900 MW Triton Knoll offshore wind project is well prepared to compete for a share of the newly confirmed Contracts for Difference (CfDs) subsidy round in the UK, it said yesterday.

The UK government confirmed on Wednesday it will offer GBP 290 million (USD 361m/EUR 332m) of annual support in an auction that will open in April 2017.

Triton Knoll, planned for the southern North Sea, is a joint venture between Innogy Renewables UK Ltd, part of Germany's Innogy SE (ETR:IGY), and Norwegian state-owned utility Statkraft. The offshore wind park was consented by the government in 2013, while consent for the electrical system was granted in September this year.

"Triton Knoll is to be considered one of, if not the most cost-competitive offshore wind farm projects bidding into this second auction round," said project director James Cotter.

According to the statement, to date, a project team of more than 70 people has been dedicated to identifying cost reduction opportunities and is analysing data from onshore and offshore site investigation works commissioned during 2016.
