Tri Global starts developing 255-MW wind farm project in Illinois

US renewable project developer Tri Global Energy LLC said on Thursday it has kicked off the development of a 255-MW wind project in Illinois.

The Vermilion Wind park, as it is called, will be installed in Vermilion County, East Central Illinois, covering an area of 15,000 acres (6,070 ha). Wind, utility interconnection and preliminary environmental studies have already been initiated and land acquisition is planned to continue through 2020, with most leases already being in place.

The whole development process is seen to last over the next two to three years.

According to the developer, the power plant will bring around USD 55 million (EUR 46.4m) in landowner payments and USD 47 million in tax revenues over its 25-year operational life.

Tri Global develops wind, solar and energy storage projects in Illinois, Indiana, Texas, Nebraska and Virginia. While its major market is Texas, the company has turned to Illinois due to its available land resources and the assumption that “the state is poised to reap even more benefits through harnessing its assets for the development of wind energy,” said Tri Global's founder and chairman John Billingsley.
