Dutch tidal power technology company Tocardo and the hydro unit of Germany-based Schottel Group have agreed to supply turbines for the 30-MW Perpetuus Tidal Energy Centre (PTEC) off the Isle of Wight, England.
The PTEC project is developed by Perpetuus Tidal Energy Centre Ltd, which is a consortium comprised of private renewables developer Perpetuus Energy Limited and The Isle of Wight Council. The project will enable the long-term operation of turbine arrays by both Tocardo and Schottel Hydro.
“We are currently working with SCHOTTEL HYDRO and TOCARDO to identify the optimal site layout and designs, taking into consideration the outputs of our Environmental Impact Assessment and consented envelope. These decisions will be finalised in due course, with onshore construction scheduled to begin next year,” said project director Mark Francis.
The project has already received all key approvals and signed a grid connection deal. The tidal energy farm is expected to enter into service in 2020.
