to-the-point: Vattenfall ready with 1st turbine at 228-MW park in Wales
The 228-MW Pen y Cymoedd wind farm’s first turbine, made by Siemens (ETR:SIE), has been installed at the site in south Wales, Swedish utility Vattenfall said Friday.
The park is planned to be fully operational later in 2016 or in early 2017. It will have total of 76 turbines that are expected to produce enough power to meet the annual demand of some 140,000 UK households.
Vattenfall says the Pen y Cymoedd is the largest wind park in Wales.
The UK installed 975 MW of wind power capacity in 2015, bringing the cumulative figure to 13,603 MW, according to GWEC figures. Support for new onshore wind has fallen sharply over the past year.
