Taiwan has identified 36 areas suitable for offshore wind project development near its west coast, in support of a 4-GW target by 2030, news portal DigiTimes said Monday.
The areas reach water depths of 50 metres (164 ft), the report said. According to Taiwan’s economy ministry the west coast offers very good wind resources and there is also a national feed-in tariff (FiT) for offshore wind in place.
There are several projects for wind turbines at sea in Taiwan, the biggest of which is the 128-MW Formosa 1 scheme. Siemens AG (ETR:SIE) has been selected as turbine supplier for the first phase of the project, which will use two turbines of 4 MW.
