The McPherson Board of Public Utilities (BPU) in Kansas has launched a request for proposals (RFP) for any amount and type of renewable energy up to 20 MW.
As announced on Friday, the deadline for submitting proposals is December 15.
“Right now prices for renewables are competitive especially when the production tax credits that are currently available are figured in. BPU is looking at renewable options either offsite or even onsite, if cost is favorable,” said BPU assistant general manager, Mark Wurm.
The BPU currently sources 85% of its energy from coal. It wants to add some renewable energy capacity in order to prepare for targets under the US’ Clean Power Plan and because it says customers are paying greater attention to their environmental footprint.
