to-the-point: Goldwind releases 4-MW smart wind turbine

November 15 (Renewables Now) - China’s Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology (HKG:2208) on Tuesday announced the release of a medium-speed smart wind turbine with a rated capacity of 4 MW-4.2 MW.

The permanent magnet direct-drive (PMDD) machine, named GW4S, expands the company’s 3S platform and will be available with rotor diametres of up to 136 metres (446.2 ft). It is suitable for class IIA wind sites, the wind turbine maker said.

Goldwind intends to install a prototype of the new turbine in China in the second quarter of next year and start selling the product commercially in the first quarter of 2019. Target markets for the 4S turbine will include North America, Australia, South America and Turkey, CEO Tony Pan noted.
