Irish energy company Energia announced it has opened the country’s largest wind farm following its expansion -- the 95-MW Meenadreen plant in County Donegal.
The firm has spent EUR 145 million (USD 156m) to complete the expansion project in 26 months. The wind park consists of 38 turbines of the N90 model manufactured by Germany’s Nordex (ETR:NDX1) that have the combined capacity to power up to 50,000 homes.
Energia says it has invested over EUR 500 million in wind projects in Ireland to date, adding 1 GW of renewables capacity. It reached financial close on the Meenadreen Extension in late April 2015.
