to-the-point: Ecotricity to build smart grid with Next Kraftwerke

UK green energy supplier Ecotricity Group Ltd will create and run a smart grid, or a Virtual Power Plant, using a software platform by German firm Next Kraftwerke.

The partnership, announced on Wednesday, will allow Ecotricity to control and balance generation, storage and demand, across the country in real time. It will actually be the first firm to use Next Kraftwerke’s new NEMOCS platform.

“Businesses with energy storage systems, energy generators and customers that can manage their demand will all be able to benefit financially from being part of this new approach to energy,” Ecotricity said.

The British company sources the electricity it supplies from wind and solar farms and it supplies gas with a renewable component.
