to-the-point: ABB to upgrade grid in Quebec under USD-85m order
ABB (VTX:ABBN) said today it has won contracts valued at more than USD 85 million (EUR 76m) to upgrade Canadian utility Hydro-Quebec’s 800-kV air-insulated switchgear (AIS) substations and transmission grid.
The Switzerland-based power and automation technology company will design, deliver and commission circuit breakers with polymeric insulators for the existing substations. In addition, it will supply 450 megavolt-ampere (MVA) autotransformers along with 735-kV shunt reactors.
This upgrade will help cater to the growing demand for power and the need to integrate new sources of renewable energy into the grid, ABB said in a statement.
