The Switch gets wind turbine components order from Prokon
Oct 12, 2012 - Finnish company The Switch yesterday said it had received an order from German wind energy project developer Prokon for 10 units of direct-drive 3 MW permanent magnet generator (PMG) and full-power converters (FPC).
Prokon has already ordered two direct-drive prototypes in the same class from The Switch that will be ready for trials by the end of this year.
The latest deal is in line with the German group's plans to provide full turbine development and manufacturing services, according to the announcement. The PMG and FPC packages are intended for its P 3000 turbines, which will be used only in the company's own wind parks to be built in Germany and Finland.
Prokon has so far installed 479 MW of wind farms in Germany and Poland. Currently, it has 5,000 MW in the planning stage and a further 600 MW are to come in the next several years, the statement says.
The Switch is supplier of megawatt-class PMG and FPC packages for wind power and other renewable energy applications.
