Jul 15, 2013 - Thailand’s Energy Ministry is ready with a proposal for the introduction of feed-in tariffs (FiTs) for rooftop solar installations, Thai daily The Nation said Saturday.
According to the report, Energy Minister Pongsak Ruktapongpisal will discuss on Tuesday the FiTs as well as other energy issues such as the jump in global oil prices following the political troubles in Egypt.
The ministry proposes three groups of FiTs for the 2013/14 year. The first tariff of THB 6.69 (USD 0.22/EUR 0.17) per kWh will be for residential rooftop solar systems of up to 10 MW. The proposed FiT for installations at buildings and sites owned by small and medium-sized enterprises, of between 10 MW and 250 MW, is THB 6.55 per kWh. The third group includes medium-to-large factories and solar parks of over 250 MW which could get a FiT of THB 6.16 per kWh under the ministry’s proposal, The Nation said. The plan is to offer the FiTs for 25 years.
Ruktapongpisal estimates that the launch of FiTs in 2013/14 would fetch no less than 200 MW of fresh rooftop solar capacity, the report said. Other measures to support the segment could include tax breaks after the Energy Ministry consults with the Finance Ministry.
