Thailand’s Electricity Generating Public Co Ltd (EGCO Group) has acquired a 25% interest in the owner of the 640-MW Yunlin offshore wind project in Taiwan, it said on Friday.
The stake in Yunlin Holding GmbH was purchased by Greenwing Energy BV, a unit of EGCO, from Taiwan Offshore Holding GmbH. Yunlin Holding holds 100% of the vehicle behind the offshore wind scheme and is owned by Germany’s Wpd AG and a Japanese group led by trader Sojitz Corporation (TYO:2768). The latter joined the project in April last year.
Financial details about EGCO’s participation were not provided.
The Yunlin offshore wind park will be located off the Taiwanese west coast in the Taiwan Strait. Its 80 turbines will be commissioned in phases, with the 352-MW first one planned to go live in the last quarter of 2020. The whole complex will be brought online in the third trimester of 2021.
