January 6 (Renewables Now) - Italian smart energy company TerniEnergia SpA (BIT:TER) has inked a preliminary contract to sell a biodigestion and biomethane production facility under construction in  the province of Lecce, Italy, for EUR 2.9 million (USD 3.2m).

TerniEnergia, which is part of Italieaf Group, on Monday said it has agreed to sell 100% of NewcoEnergy Srl, the owner of the biomethane project in Calimera, to environmental services company Buttol Srl.

The transaction is expected to close by March, subject to meeting the requirements to be included in TerniEnergia's recovery and relaunch plan, the company noted.

Last month, the deadline for the effectiveness of the executive determination in relation to the Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure for the Calimera facility was extended by 20 months.
