Terma testing wind farm-compliant radar at Copenhagen airport

(SeeNews) - Jul 17, 2012 - Danish defence electronics company Terma A/S said Friday it had installed its SCANTER 4002 air surveillance radar at the Copenhagen International Airport to show that the device was not affected by wind farms in the proximity.

The unit will also evaluate mitigation of the many wind turbines erected in the area.

The effect of wind turbines on radar systems has become a serious issue in areas with significant wind energy potential and Terma is looking to address that problem with SCANTER 4002. The manufacturer explained that the device was suitable for use as a gap filling radar to existing radar systems thanks to features such as small target detection around wind farms and interturbine visibility.

The Danish Air Navigation Service Provider NAVIAIR worked together with Terma on the airport project.
