French engineering company Technip Energies NV (EPA:TE) said today that as part of a consortium it will conduct a front-end engineering design (FEED) for the 504-MW Ulsan Gray Whale 3 floating wind project off South Korea.
Together with offshore contractor Subsea 7 SA (OSL:SUBC) and South Korean shipbuilding and offshore industry company SamKang M&T Co Ltd (KOSDAQ:100090), Technip Energies has been selected for the job by the project developers, Corio Generation, a portfolio company of Macquarie Group's Green Investment Group (GIG), and French energy company TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE). Gray Whale 3 is one of three offshore wind projects totalling 1.5 GW that the pair is progressing offshore Ulsan.
The contract spans engineering for the floater, mooring and inter-array cable in partnership with a wind turbine supplier. The floating foundation design will feature Technip Energies’ INO15 three-column semi-submersible floater technology with a capacity of 15 MW.
GIG and TotalEnergies last summer secured an electricity business license for the 504-MW first phase of their 1.5-GW floating wind initiative offshore Ulsan.
