Technip celebrates official launching of offshore wind business
Aug 1, 2011 - French oil and gas field services provider Technip (EPA:TEC) celebrated today the official launching of its offshore wind business.
The event took place at Technip's offshore wind headquarters located on the outskirts of Aberdeen, Scotland.
The company said the Aberdeen office will act as a centre of engineering excellence.
The launch of the new business underlines Technip's commitment to the sector and represents another milestone in achieving the company's ambition to become a leading player on this market.
During today's event, Technip and Spanish group Iberdrola (MCE:IBE) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to submit a bid in the first French tender for offshore wind turbines. The two companies plan to bid for two of the five offshore areas that the French government has offered in the tender.
Thierre Pilenko, chairman and CEO of Technip, said that the opening and the MoU both confirm that Technip is strongly committed to the development of renewable energies.
