Tata Power to invest USD 1bn in wind energy - report
(ADPnews) - Nov 23, 2010 - Indian utility Tata Power Co Ltd (BOM:500400) is poised to inject some INR 50 billion (USD 1.1bn/EUR 808m) in its wind power operations.
According to a Friday report by the Press Trust of India quoting the company's executive director of strategy and business development, Banmali Agrawala, Tata aims to produce at least 25% of its power, or 8 GW, from green sources by 2017.
In March this year, the company announced that it will increase its wind and solar energy generation capacity to 2 GW and 250 MW by 2017, respectively.
The company has two wind power generation projects each in Maharashtra and Gujarat and one in Karnataka with a cumulative capacity of 195 MW. An additional 100-MW plant is under construction in Gujarat.
