Cennergi Pty, a 50/50 joint venture of India's Tata Power Co Ltd (BOM:500400) and South African firm Exxaro Resources Ltd (JSE:EXX) started commercial operation of a 95 MW wind project in South Africa this week.
The 95 MW Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm (TCWF) is equipped with 31 Vestas V 112 machines, each with a capacity of 3.075 MW.
With the commissioning of the Tsitsikamma project, Cennergi’s operational portfolio has increased to 229 MW as it had achieved commercial operations of its other South African project -- the 134 MW Amakhala Emoyeni wind farm recently last month on July 28, 2016.
Cennergi won a preferred bidder status for the two projects in Eastern Cape province in May 2012, as part of the second round of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Procurement Programme (REIPP).
"The commissioning of the Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm has further augmented Tata Power’s renewables portfolio outside India and represents the company’s commitment and progress on its objectives of enhancing non-fossil based generation portfolio up to 30-40 % of its total generating capacity, " Anil Sardana, CEO and managing director, Tata Power, said in a news release today.
