Global clean energy investor TagEnergy said on Friday it has acquired a 50-MW battery energy storage project in Scotland from local developer Intelligent Land Investments Group (ILI Group).
The value of the purchase was kept under wraps.
The Pitkevy storage system will be installed at an unspecified location in Scotland and is due to be connected to the grid in 2024.
TagEnergy, among whose investors are France's Impala SAS, Mirova and Omnes, set foot in the UK renewable energy market last year and currently has 20 MW/40 MWh of energy storage capacity in operation and 50 MW/100 MWh under construction. Additionally, more than 250 MW/500 MWh of projects in the company’s portfolio have reached shovel-ready status.
“TagEnergy is pursuing its strong involvement in the UK market, to connect more sustainable, competitive and clean power to the national grid and accelerate the energy transition,” said Franck Woitiez, CEO of TagEnergy.
Ili Group is developing more than 4 GW of energy storage projects across the UK, including 2.5 GW of pumped storage hydro and 1.9 GW of battery storage schemes. According to the statement, the company is gearing to take to the market 400 MW of battery projects by the end of the year.
