Switzerland's biggest biogas processing plant unveiled

Aug 22, 2013 - Biogas Zuerich AG Tuesday unveiled Switzerland's largest processing plant, which will convert more than 25,000 tonnes of bio-waste annually into biogas.

The plant, which is part of the Werdhoelzli purification facility in Zurich, will use kitchen and garden waste collected in the Zurich region. The resulting biogas will be fed into the grid of Erdgas Zurich.

The plant will also produce liquid fertilisers and mixed manure from digestate.

The construction of the plant represents an order from the Zurich parliament for the utilisation of the bio-waste of the city.

Households will be able to provide bio-waste to Biogas Zurich from January 1, 2014.
