Nov 25, 2011 - Switzerland has allocated CHF 110 million (USD 118.3m/EUR 89.2m) to finance the deployment of renewable energy systems in Poland, economic news portal Wnp.pl reported yesterday.
The initiative is aimed at promoting the installation of solar water heating systems, photovoltaic (PV) systems, heat pumps and energy efficiency systems. Solar water heating systems are expected to be installed in 17,000 households and 200 public buildings and schools under the programme, with own contributions of residents not exceeding 30% of the project costs.
The programme is scheduled to be launched in January 2012.
Currently, the first contracts between the Swiss Embassy and the Polish Ministry for Regional Development are being signed for total funding of between CHF 4.8 million and CHF 21 million, the website said.
Under a Swiss-Polish cooperation programme, Switzerland has allocated CHF 489 million to Poland mainly for projects in the fields of infrastructure and environmental protection, health protection, private-sector support, local government partnerships and non-government organisation activities on environmental protection and society.
