Vineyard Wind LLC will count on Switzerland’s Geoquip Marine AG to conduct geotechnical survey for the 804-MW Vineyard Wind 1 wind project off the coast of Massachusetts.
Geoquip Marine will deploy two separate vessels to gather information on ground conditions for prospective turbine and substation locations in the 501 North Federal Lease Area where the project is sited, Vineyard Wind said.
The surveying will be carried out in two phases, with the first scheduled to start in late May, while the second will begin in late July. The Swiss company is expected to complete the work by September 2020.
Geoquip and the wind projects developer first collaborated in 2018 for a similar extensive geotechnical scope, Vineyard added.
“Getting to this step would have been a milestone under normal circumstances, but to do so now in light of the current pandemic makes reaching this point all the more significant and rewarding. We look forward to working with Geoquip as we begin to gather the data necessary to get the first large-scale offshore wind project in the United States up and running,” said Lars Pedersen, Vineyard Wind CEO.
