Sumitomo wind arm plans 18-MW wind farm in Ibaraki- report

Aug 15, 2012 - Summit Wind Power, a unit of Japanese Sumitomo Corp (TYO:8316), is to build an 18-MW wind farm in Japan's Ibaraki prefecture for a total cost of some JPY 4 billion (USD 51m/EUR 41) to JPY 5 billion, daily Nikkei said today.

The facility, which will include 6 turbines, is seen to start work in 2016.

According to the report, the project will boost Summit Wind's installed power capacity to 54 MW, which would be enough to power around 30,000 local homes.

At the start of July, the Japanese government launched quite appealing renewable energy feed-in tariffs (FiTs). The FiT for wind power was set at JPY 23.1 per kWh, while that for solar power is JPY 42/kWh.
