Sumitomo Electric to equip 122-MW wind farm in Japan

Japanese diversified manufacturer Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd (TYO:5802) said on Wednesday it will be supplying power transmission and transformation equipment for the 122-MW Tsugaru wind project.

More specifically, Sumitomo Electric has been contracted to undertake the design, production and installation of electrical equipment. This includes the underground power transmission and distribution lines and the substation equipment. The company noted that it has been involved in the project from its initial phase of planning.

The plant will be built for Green Power Investment Corp in Tsugaru City, Aomori Prefecture. Upon completion it will become the country’s largest wind farm, according to Sumitomo Electric.

The company noted that trial operations are scheduled for the autumn of 2019, while the start of commercial operations is expected in April 2020.
