SuedWestStrom to withdraw from Bard Offshore 1 wind park project
Nov 20, 2012 - German power plant engineering group SuedWestStrom Kraftwerk GmbH & Co KG said today it decided to withdraw from the Bard Offshore 1 wind park project in the North Sea, which is worth billions.
At its today’s general assembly the company decided not to buy into the wind park based on the delays in the construction and the unforeseeable risks related to its completion, CEO Bettina Morlock said. In 2009 it founded SuedWestStrom Windpark GmbH & Co KG for the acquisition of 70% of Bard Offshore 1.
The park, originally planned for completion in 2011, is now expected to be ready at end-2013.
It is located some 90 km (55.9 miles) northwest from the Borkum island and is to generate electricity for 400,000 households after it begins operations.
