(ADPnews) - Nov 1, 2010 - Filling stations company Statoil Fuel & Retail ASA (OSL:STF), recently spun-off from Norwegian oil major Statoil ASA (OSL:STL), has started selling Bio95 2G, a fuel containing 5% second generation bioethanol, in Denmark.
The fuel was developed in Denmark from wheat straw produced in the country, and is the first product of its kind to be available in the country, Statoil Fuel & Retail said last week.
Ethanol in Bio95 2G is rated second-generation biofuel as it is produced from wheat straw, which is categorised as agricultural waste, unlike first-generation biofuels made from crops that also can be used for food.
Bio95 2G is available at 98 Statoil fuel retail stations in Denmark, making the country the first one in the world with nationwide 2nd-generation bioethanol in petrol (gasoline).
"We have bought the first five million litres of second-generation bioethanol, which is equivalent to the first one-two years of production from the Inbicon plant near Kalundborg. Consequently we expect to be alone with 2nd generation bioethanol on the Danish market for some time," said Pia Bach Henriksen, Statoil Fuel & Retail Business Unit leader for Denmark.
