March 17 (Renewables Now) - Norwegian state-owned utility Statkraft AS announced today it will acquire an electric vehicle (EV) charging business in the UK from Swedish peer Vattenfall AB.

Statkraft said the transaction will be carried out through its 100% owned EV charging unit Gronn Kontakt UK Ltd, which will absorb the UK staff and manage, operate and maintain the charging network.

The Norwegian company intends to power the UK network with 100% renewables from its own portfolio.

The Scandinavian duo will work together over the coming months to transfer the assets on a case by case basis to ensure a disruption-free transition, the press release reads.

The deal with Vattenfall is the latest in the string of acquisitions with which Statkraft seeks to strengthen its position in the European EV charging market. Last December, the utility acquired Norwegian EV charging company Gronn Kontakt and Germany’s E-Wald and eeMobility before that.
