Statkraft opens office in Finland

March 3 (Renewables Now) - Norwegian state-owned renewables company Statkraft A/S said Thursday that it is opening an office in Espoo, Finland, to focus on origination activities and power purchase agreements (PPAs).

After years of serving the Finnish market out of offices in Norway, Statkraft says it now wants to reinforce its local presence. The new office will work on providing upstream and downstream PPAs towards industrial companies and wind power developers, investors and operators, the company stated.

The move builds on Statkraft’s successes on Finland’s PPA market in 2021, such as closing upstream off-take contracts with fuels producer Neste Oyj (HEL:NESTE), chemicals company Kemira Oyj (HEL:KEMIRA) and pension provider Keva, and a downstream PPA with Aquila Capital.

Statkraft’s senior originator and the Nordic energy market veteran Fredrik Akerlund will lead the Espoo office.

“It is time for our Finnish customers to have a locally available partner. As a PPA provider and trader, Statkraft finds energy solutions for power generators and industrial companies. Our position enables us to offer competitive and innovative services related to power sales and procurement to all participants in the market”, commented Akerlund.
