August 23 (Renewables Now) - Norwegian state-owned utility Statkraft AS has taken over Bavaria-based firm E-Wald GmbH in a drive to bolster its position in the German electric vehicle (EV) charging market.

E-Wald operates about 300 charging stations and offers EV leasing services for around 100 fleet cars to corporations and municipalities. In total, it has some 7,000 customers.

The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

This takeover follows Statkraft’s purchase last year of a 61% stake in another German EV charging business -- eeMobility GmbH. Statkraft, which already held a stake in Norwegian sector player Gronn Kontakt, wants to establish itself as a leader in this industry in key growth markets in Europe, it said.

Statkraft is the largest producer of renewable energy in Europe, mainly relying on hydropower plants.
