Aug 6, 2013 - German regional utility SWE Stadtwerke Erfurt GmbH has acquired seven wind turbines with a combined capacity of 8 gigawatt hours per year.
The turbines, which cost the utility EUR 5 million (USD 6.6m) to purchase, are able to power 4,000 households.
SWE, which has 130,000 customers, aims at generating a quarter of its electricity from wind power in the future, Peter Zaiss, head of SWE Stadtwerke, told newspaper Thueringische Landeszeitung in comments published on Monday.
The utility will decide on whether to buy or set up more wind parks after an in-depth examination, Zaiss said.
SWE has been expanding its green portfolio and has so far invested about EUR 12 million in renewable sites.
