January 11 (Renewables Now) - Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) has received a contract to deliver 400 MW of production tax credit (PTC) qualifying turbine components to US renewables company sPower.

The order calls for the supply of 2-MW and 4-MW compatible turbine components that qualify for 80% of the PTC incentive, sPower said on Wednesday without providing information on the specific projects they will be used in.

sPower said that wind power is expected to generate over USD 85 billion (EUR 71.2bn) of economic activity in the US in the next three years, creating almost 50,000 new jobs across the value chain.

Salt Lake City-based sPower, owned by AES Corp (NYSE:AES) and Canada's Alberta Investment Management Corp (AIMCo), has 1.3 GW of solar and wind farms in operation or under construction in its US portfolio. In its development pipeline, the company has an additional 10-GW-plus capacity, it said.
