US solar and energy storage project developer Spearmint Energy on Thursday announced the acquisition of a 150-MW battery storage scheme in Texas from a unit of New York-based renewable energy group Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses.
The value of the purchase from Con Edison Development was kept under wraps. The buyer, an outfit set up in early 2022, noted that this is its first acquisition in its portfolio
The Revolution battery energy storage system (BESS) is planned to be installed within the region of utility Lower Colorado River Authority Territory, in proximity to a huge wind farm and a solar panel field. Once in operation, it will become one of the largest energy storage facilities in Texas.
Spearmint Energy expects to bring the BESS online in the second quarter of 2023 to deliver storage capacity to West Texas’ ERCOT.
“It is clear to us that the rapidly growing demand for flexible generation assets in ERCOT is just getting started, and as such, we hope that by continuing to acquire projects like this one, we will help solve congestion issues across the state while empowering others to assist in our country’s clean energy buildout,” said Andrew Waranch, Spearmint’s president and CEO.
