Australia’s Spark Renewables has joined forces with Irish floating wind developer Simply Blue Group and offshore contractor Subsea 7 SA (STO:SUBCO) to co-develop floating offshore wind projects in Australian waters.
The trio said on Wednesday it is targeting developments off the coast of New South Wales, within the recently declared Hunter-Central Coast and Illawarra renewable energy zones (REZ).
The three partners will seek to capture opportunities for floating wind project development, betting on each other’s experience in the sector. Specifically, Spark Renewables will bring know-how from developing wind, solar and energy storage schemes in New South Wales and South Australia, while Simply Blue has a 10-GW pipeline and is working on floating offshore wind projects in several countries, Subsea7 has delivered more than 1,000 offshore wind projects globally.
Subsea7 and Simply Blue are already partnering in the 100-MW Salamander floating wind project off the east coast of Scotland.
“With a long coastline and stable continental shelf, we see huge potential for offshore floating wind projects off New South Wales,” said Sam Roch-Perks, Simply Blue’s CEO.
