April 4 (Renewables Now) - Red Electrica Corporacion SA (BME:REE) and charging stations operator Ibil signed on Wednesday a collaboration agreement aimed at strengthening the integration of the fast charging infrastructure into the grid system.

The general purpose of the agreement is to promote electric mobility and the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) across Spain. Specifically, the two parties will collaborate on a pilot project to analyse the impact of the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, which allows vehicles to return energy back to the grid. The project will be launched at Ibil-operated EV charging stations at REE’s headquarters in Madrid.

The grid operator and Ibil will also partner on the development of new technology that will enable the modular system to recharge vehicles in situations of frequency variation. These tools will be installed in Ibil’s four new ultra-fast chargers of 350 kW at a service station near Bilbao this September. REE and Ibil will analyse the massive use of charging infrastructure when 50 fast recharges occur in a two-hour interval during the Eco Rally event in Bilbao in October.

After the projects are completed, analysis of the results will serve to detect barriers and propose solutions and recommendations so that electric mobility continues to be integrated into the system with security and guarantee, REE said.
