US wholesale energy supplier Southern Power, a unit of Southern Company (NYSE:SO), has acquired the 147-MW Grant Plains wind farm in Oklahoma from Apex Clean Energy.
This purchase expands Southern Power’s portfolio of renewable energy assets that are announced, acquired or under construction to more than 2,400 MW. It previously bought two other wind projects in Oklahoma from the same firm -- the 151-MW Grant Wind and the 299-MW Kay Wind developments.
The Grant Plains Wind park will comprise 64 Siemens turbines that will be erected at a site in Grant County. IEA Renewable Energy Inc is acting as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. Building works started in the first quarter of the year and are expected to be finalised in December 2016.
Apex will perform asset management services for the wind park on behalf of Southern Power once it enters service.
