Southern California Edison inks deals for 195 MW of battery storage

US utility Southern California Edison (SCE) has contracted 195 MW of battery storage projects to meet local capacity requirements in the Santa Clara sub-area, it said on Friday.
Two competitive rounds ended up with the selection of demand response and energy storage resources, but no natural gas-fired capacity. The selected facilities will become operational between December 2020 and March 2021.

The seven contracts are pending approval by the California Public Utilities Commission (PUC).
