Electricity generation by solar power plants reached 13.5 billion kWh in India's fiscal year to March 31, 2017, thus marking a 81% year-on-year increase, according to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
Solar was the fastest growing new power generation source in the country last year, Mercom Capital Group said, analysing the official data. In terms of total power generation in India, solar accounted for only 1.09%.
Wind was the second fastest growing electricity generation source, and it had a 3.7% share in the country's mix. The table below gives more details about India's renewable energy growth between April 2016 and March 2017.

Even though solar still has a lot to grow in India, Mercom expected the country to install about 10 GW this year alone.
