A unit of Chinese firm Sinohydro Corp Ltd has officially hooked to the grid the first turbine at the 80-MW phase II of a 100-MW intertidal wind demonstration project near the coastline of Jiangxi province's Rudong county.
Sinohydro Renewable Energy Co Ltd, which is the subsidiary in charge of the scheme, said in a press release on Wednesday it connected the machine after being given the green light by local grid operator Jiangsu Electric Power Co on July 31. The latter is a subsidiary of domestic utility State Grid Corp of China (SGCC).
Phase II of the wind farm will use a total of 32 pieces of 2.5-MW turbines, manufactured by German engineering group Siemens. Of these, 12 will be installed near the coast, while 20 will be located on the shore.
The 20-MW first phase of the facility, equipped with 10 machines, has already been completed. Upon grid-connection in up to two years, the entire plant is estimated to be able to generate some 210 GWh of electricity annually.
Sinohydro is part of Chinese engineering and construction firm PowerChina, also known as Power Construction Corp of China (SHA:601669).
