SIMEC Atlantis to retrieve two MeyGen turbines for repairs

SIMEC Atlantis Energy Ltd (LON:SAE), the developer of the up-to-398-MW MeyGen tidal stream project in Scotland, said today two of the turbines of the project's 6-MW Phase 1A will be retrieved for potential repairs.

The onboard monitoring systems have diagnosed a generator fault, as a result of which the project operators will retrieve two of the Andritz Hammerfest Hydro (AHH) turbines this month for inspection and maintenance by the turbine supplier. If the fault diagnosis is confirmed, the repairs are expected to take about two months. The turbines are covered under warranty, Atlantis noted.

The remaining AHH turbine and Atlantis' own AR1500 turbine continue to produce electricity.

The Phase 1A system, described as the world's largest tidal stream array, completed its commissioning in March this year. It has so far provided 8 GWh to the grid.
