US lithium-ion battery cells developer KORE Power Inc will deploy smart factory technology from Siemens Digital Industries at its new 12-GWh battery cell production facility in the Phoenix area of Arizona.
The unit of Siemens AG (ETR:SIE) said on Friday it will serve as the project’s technology provider, delivering critical electrical infrastructure and energy management solutions. The company will provide US-made power distribution hardware and software for the plant’s electrical operations and will also monitor the environmental controls, security, and power distribution systems through its Desigo CC building management system.
Known as KOREPlex, the lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing plant will be built to meet the demand for battery cells in electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy applications. The facility is expected to have an initial annual production capacity of 6 GWh, which will be doubled at a later stage. It is planned to become operational by late 2024 or early 2025.
Last November, Siemens Financial Services became the lead investor in a funding round supporting the KOREPlex project, investing USD 75 million (EUR 70.8m).
