Siemens nabs supply deal for 580-MW Race Bank wind park off UK

July 3 (SeeNews) - Germany’s Siemens AG (FRA:SIE) confirmed today the order for 91 units of 6-MW turbines for Danish utility Dong Energy A/S’ 580-MW Race Bank wind park off the east coast of Britain.

Siemens will supply, install and commission the turbines, which have performance enhancing features to enable capacity of 580 MW. Installation will commence in the spring of 2017.

The offshore wind farm in the Greater Wash area, which will qualify for 1.8 Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROCs), is expected to be commissioned in 2018. The plant will be able to generate enough electricity for over 400,000 local homes. Siemens and Dong will jointly service the facility for five years.

Siemens’ CEO Offshore, Michael Hannibal, pointed out that offshore wind costs have contracted by 11% in five years, according to Renewable UK. The German company aims to have technologies available by 2020 to make it possible bring offshore wind power generating costs below EUR 0.10 (USD 0.11) per kWh.
