Siemens Gamesa unveils 1st nacelle for 10-MW turbine giant

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGR) last week announced the completion of the prototype nacelle for its 10-MW offshore turbine model.

The nacelle for the SG 10.0-193 DD unit was assembled at the company’s factory in Brande, Denmark, the company said in a Twitter post on Thursday. The new model, as the manufacturer said previously, will offer up to 30% more annual energy production (AEP) than its predecessor -- the SG 8.0-167 DD -- thanks to its larger rotor diameter of 193 metres (633.2 ft).

Siemens Gamesa expects to launch the commercial market deployment of the 10-MW machine in 2022. It first announced the 10-MW model in January.

The SGRE factory in Cuxhaven, Germany, will be the site where the company will initially manufacture the nacelles for the new turbine. This model has been chosen for the Hollandse Kust Zuid I & II and III & IV wind farms in the Dutch North Sea, although a final contract for the first portion has not been signed yet.
